What're ya doin'?

Settled back into the regular schedule of things, school drop offs and pick ups, being a house husband - it's nice. Despite the dread of the future I've got a plan and I've started working on it here from my home in Rochester, UK

What're ya workin' on?

I launched Ops Wolf and have done about a months worth of posts, Linkedin stuff and been grinding out bits here and there throughout the Easter holidays too.

I've also been putting more effort into finding work, networking, chatting, applying for jobs. It's definitely a very different market. The power is really obviously in employers hands and as a more senior candidate it's really tricky to get your foot in the door for even a conversation given the amount of people out there on the market.

I'm definitely ready for some 'war' and get into a role where I can really make a difference. I love change, I love transformation, I love getting things done. Ops Wolf is a good outlet in the meantime though and the grind continues.

What're ya playin'?

Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds has been and gone, I really enjoyed playing a Monster Hunter game again and it felt right at home after spending so many hours with Monster Hunter World. There's something about this one though that doesn't quite hit the market for longevity. The core gameplay loop is there, but the monsters aren't. The 'world' isn't. It's really unmemorable and I don't feel any connection to anything.

Gameplay wise it's great, it's an amazing entry point to the series if you've never played and you'll have dozens of hours of fun. I went through it in a month or so of semi-casual playing (experienced playing mind you) and now await the inevitable DLC and content that will drop in over the coming months.

Path of Exile 2

0.2 came out recently and I was blessed (or cursed) with one of the rarest drops in the game giving me essentially unlimited wealth to be able to do whatever I wanted. I spent 1/5th of this to max out a character and now sitting on so much currency I don't know what to do with it.

There's still huge flaws with the game. I saw a recent Reddit post talking about how everything that makes the game good isn't it's design choices (at least system wise) but the overall feel of the game, aesthetics, music, etc. I think that's really true. The end game mechanics are lacking to say the least, cumbersome or even downright deliberately restrictive. I think it's really telling that Last Epoch released a patch a week later and pretty much every streamer/youtuber (and likely a huge amount of the player base) moved over to it to get their ARPG fix.

I still have long term hope, but GGG are 0/2 at the moment and I'd recommend you play something else to get your ARPG needs met.

What're ya listen' to?

I'm still very much into the hardcore/punk scene right now. I discovered SOFT PLAY in the usual way - a Spotify radio playlist and fell in love with their overall sound. It's great when you go through an artists songs and realise you've heard some of it before and loved it but couldn't remember and it's a like a bit of rediscovery!

Definitely worth checking out for a UK hardcore/punk band.
